Strawberry Chocolate Mousse

Ingredients:

1 cup fresh strawberries, hulled and sliced
2 tablespoons granulated sugar
1 cup heavy cream
1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
2 large egg whites
1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar
1/4 cup powdered sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Directions:

Prepare the Strawberry Puree:

In a blender or food processor, blend the fresh strawberries and granulated sugar until smooth. Set aside.
Melt the Chocolate:

In a heatproof bowl, melt the semi-sweet chocolate chips over a pot of simmering water (double boiler method), stirring until smooth. Alternatively, you can melt the chocolate in the microwave in 20-second intervals, stirring in between until fully melted. Allow it to cool slightly.
